The book formerly named Outdoor Offspring has a new cover and is now named Outdoor Parents, Outdoor Kids. The book is still set for release in Spring 2010.
In the world of publishing, just like kids, things change. Such is the case with Outdoor Offspring. After holding a focus group with sales reps from key retail accounts, Heliconia decided to change the Outdoor Offspring books title to Outdoor Parents, Outdoor Kids, and to replace the muddy-kid-coming straight-at-you cover photo with a shot of a mom and her son enjoying a special camping moment. Although it was difficult to let go of the original title and the muddy kid cover image, both the new photo and title better encapsulate what the book is about at first glance. And since moms are likely to comprise a high percentage of buyers (read: dads, youre slackers who never buy books), the new cover photo helps them identify with the book. Says mom Paige Boucher of Mountain Hardwear: I love the muddy kid shot, but I think most moms dont want to see their kids that muddy. This has been one of the hardest covers weve ever had to do, says publisher Ken Whiting. Initially we chose the muddy kid because we didnt want to typecast it in any one sports genre. But as much as we liked it, we feel that the new cover does a better job of communicating what this book is about.
Outdoor Parents, Outdoor Kids will be available in outdoor stores and book stores thorughout North America, as of April 1, 2010. For more information, visit the website www.outdoorkidsbook.com
